My early training was in Radio, Radar and aircraft navigation system with our local airline Air New Zealand and was sent to England where I was involved with developing aircraft navigation system. After 22 years I left the airline business and was employed as a Consultant on maintenance management systems for major factorys, power stations and reticulation networks. Around 2004 I was given a rubbish lathe and after joining South Auckland Wood Turners I sold it it for scrap metal and purchsed a DVR. I now have 3 lathes, 2 at home and one in the holiday home plus a mountain of tools which from time to time I was absolutly convinced that I needed. In between property management, travel and doing those jobs which I have been told I must do around the house I find a little tme of wood turning. Things which I enjoy the most are teaching others on the basics of wood turning and when we are at the holday home being sent down stairs to make dust while my wife does her silver smithing upstairs. Tramping in the outdoors is also one of my passions.
