Our Ottawa club has undertaken to make 150 wig stands by the end of the year, to mark the 150th anniversary of Canada's confederation. We will meet the goal. At the risk of offending traditionalists I confess that the traditional wig stand form does not appeal to me and I don't enjoy making beads and coves, so this is my take on the subject - a bit different. Wood is Camatillo and it is finished to 400grit only. Dimensions 14"Hx 5.5"W Advantage of this method over trad style is that it is quick and easy, and the form is a female figure. One does need a large block of solid wood, but with all the millions of dead ash trees it is not hard to prepare a 14"x6" dry half-log, and then one has options with the finished piece of doing some Scarpino liming or staining or sandblasting or whatever.
