Small Cup
My name is Andy Callis, I’m a man of faith, a husband and a father. I’m originally from southern Indiana, but moved to southern Ohio in 2013. By accident I found woodturning on YouTube and developed a love of working wit my hands. After a year of watching other makers on YouTube, I finally made the jump and bought a full sized lathe. My wife thought I was crazy, having never shown any interest in wood working at all. I learned enough technique through watching that I “turned” out to be decent. I started off with a mini bat for my son then moved to wands, rings, stone inlay, bowls, inside out turning and plates, all turned between centers or with faceplates; I couldn’t afford a chuck. That last statement describes a lot of what I do in my shop, the least amount of money spent, the better. So far I have yet to buy any wood and I make what ever tools I can, like my set of carbide tools. I look forward to getting inspired by the works on this site and getting to know you through your work.
