Japanese Dolls

I was born in 1946 in Exmouth a sea side town located in Devon in the South West of England. With my wife and two small children I emigrated to New Zealand in 1975 to further a career as Civil and Structural Engineer. I have sailed since the age of six and still sail my boat around the Bay of Islands in New Zealand today. Wood turning started as a hobby in my mid-fifties as time spent on other commitment and work allowed. Early on, I was fortunate to have rubbed shoulders and be encouraged by a number of New Zealand top turners. My love of the sea is reflected in many of my pieces particularly the very thin walled hollow forms. These are generally formed from timber won from storm damaged New Zealand Pohutakawa trees which can be seen lining the shores of many beaches that surround me.
