John Franklin is a wood turner from Kingston, NY, a member and past President of the KWA -Kaatskill Wood turners group in Hurley, New York. He is also a member of the Northeast Woodworkers Association, and the American Woodturner’s Association. He has taught classes and demonstrated wood turning techniques at Totally Turning Sessions, at Showcase demonstrations and various topics for the AWA and local KWA groups. John has been turning competitively for about 20 years and in that time, he has won more than 20 awards for woodturning at the annual NWA Woodworkers Showcase/ Totally Turning Symposium held each year in Saratoga NY. His artwork has been sold in New York Art Galleries in Ashokan, Hunter, New Paltz, Cornwall, Old Forge, and Cooperstown. John chooses mostly local New York hardwoods for his artwork. His motto is “started by nature, finished by hand.” Constantly searching for the most unique wood that nature has to offer, he then turns it into a shape and applies a protective finish to enhance the wood and allow it to be appreciated for many years to come.
