Classically trained as a graphic designer and communication artist, I’d enjoyed a 25-year career as an advertising creative director working on some of the world’s biggest brands and winning hundreds of creativity awards within the US and Internationally. Upon retirement and in order to scratch an ever-present creative itch, I found myself drawn into making artwork from wood.
Almost every one of my works begins with a natural edge – that is the way Mother Nature had intended the outermost surface of the tree to face the world.
It’s from this edge I begin crafting, looking inward to find hidden forms inside the tree – lines, color patterns, and visual movement. At times I’ll innovate with technique, but I always seek to bring the hidden gorgeousness of what lies beneath to the surface of my pieces. All of my work to date has been crafted with trees salvaged from the greater Tampa Bay area.
