Thermed Chair

I am retired and live in Knoxville, TN and have been a woodturner since 2010. Prior to retirement I had careers as a carrier based Navy Jet pilot and an Aerospace Research and Development Program Manager. I've maintained an interest in art and woodworking throughout my adult life. After I retired my father-in-law gave me an old lathe and I was hooked. A couple of classes at Arrowmont convinced me to step up to a much better lathe and I was off and running. Classes I took from Art Liestman and Barbara Dill steered me to my principal focus on turning non-round multi-axis works of art. I am the Past President of the East Tennessee Woodworkers Guild (juried member), a member of the Smoky Mountain Woodturners and the American Association of Woodturners (AAW). Several of my twisted segmented works were jury-selected multiple times for the East Tennessee Master Woodworkers Show and for the “Arts in the Airport Exhibition” at the Knoxville McGhee Tyson airport . I have published articles in American Woodturner and in the British Woodturner magazines. I recently taught a class at the Tennessee Tech Appalachian Center for Craft entitled “Turning Spirals on a Lathe” in May 2018 and am scheduled to teach a repeat class there in May 2021. I was a demonstrator at the July 2019 AAW National Woodturning Symposium in Raleigh, NC on "Spiral Edge Segmented Designs". My website is www.horais.com
