In the mid 1980’s I started doing flat work, making furniture for family and friends. In 2008 I decided to give turning a try and bought my first lathe. The rest is just history. I retired in 2010, after 37 years in public education, and am now fortunate enough to do turning on a “full time” basis. Having primarily been self-taught, I focus the majority of my turning time on pens, bowls, platters and hollow forms. Like most woodturners, my other hobby is collecting wood. I have always loved the surprises and beauty that are found underneath the bark of a tree. The grain and color that comes forth once you start working with it is what keeps me excited about woodturning. Examples of my turnings can be found on my Facebook page and on my website at www.thewoodendoerr.com.
