Kimberly has been woodturning since September 2023, when her husband (James, not a woodturner) noticed all of the woodturning videos she was consuming on YouTube and gave her a lathe for her birthday. Somewhat daunted, but excited, she jumped in headlong. Despite serious illness, which is now mostly resolved, and an unrelated shoulder injury, which is now fully resolved, she and James started her own YouTube channel (@WernWoodTurning) just two years later.
During her long period of illness, Kimberly was forced to isolate to avoid exposure to secondary infections. Due to this, she has been entirely self-taught. As a member of many online groups and forums, she devours other's works and sets out to learn any processes that catch her eye, and has added many techniques to her skillset. However, she still has a long list of concepts to learn, and comes across new ideas nearly every day!
Kimberly works closely with James, who not only does the literal heavy lifting that she is physically incapable of, but also very often thinks up creative challenges for her, records and edits her videos, and otherwise keeps her on track. Basically, Kimberly does the turning while James manages everything else!
