Up until 2000, I was kept busy with work in senior management roles that did not provide a lot of spare time for the pursuit of interests such as wood turning (although I had always been a keen home handy man). That changed when I had to cease work due to a brain injury. After a period of rehabilitation and adjustment, I discovered a passion and skill with hand carving small ornaments. The carving provided an outlet for my 'eye’ for detail and my perfectionist tendencies. After 8 years hand carving I made the decision to relocate to Waihi where I purchased a lathe, set up a workshop in my garage and started learning the craft of wood turning.
